Anti ageing – “Apigenin prevents aging-associated epigenetic changes and oxidative stress” by J. Kim et al. (2019).
This study found that apigenin supplementation in aging mice prevented aging-associated epigenetic changes and oxidative stress. The results of the study suggest that apigenin may have anti-aging effects by modulating epigenetic changes and reducing oxidative stress.
Stress – “Apigenin Ameliorates Chronic Unpredictable Mild Stress-Induced Depression-Like Behaviors via Regulating the Hippocampal BDNF/TrkB Signaling Pathway” by W. Wang et al. (2020).
This study found that apigenin supplementation improved depression-like behaviors and increased brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) expression in rats exposed to chronic unpredictable mild stress. The results suggest that apigenin may have an effect on reducing stress-related depression by regulating the BDNF/TrkB signaling pathway in the hippocampus.
Sleep – “Apigenin supplementation improves subjective sleep quality in healthy individuals: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-arm study.” by Luisa Ochoa-Sánchez et al. (2018).
The study found that supplementing with apigenin improved sleep quality as assessed by subjective sleep questionnaires.
Skin – “Apigenin, a natural flavonoid, protects human skin keratinocytes from UVB-induced oxidative damage through Nrf2-mediated gene expression” by L.L. Wang et al. (2017).
This study found that apigenin protected human skin cells from UVB-induced oxidative damage and activated the Nrf2 pathway, which is involved in cellular defense against oxidative stress. The authors concluded that apigenin may have potential as a natural photoprotective agent for skin health
